Tribute to Littlefinger – the man who singlehandedly scripted the War of the Five Kings.

What was it exactly that we liked about Game Of Thrones when it began? What made it so different?

For me the answer lies in the title of the series - "The Game". The games that people played for the Throne. With several heirs for the thrones and several hands pulling the strings. We were clueless about motives of the most. We couldn't trust our beloved characters to the series.

But no one played the game better than this one man - Littlefinger. The man who was single handedly responsible for almost every event at the start of the series. The most interesting complex character of Game Of Thrones!

Littlefinger - The Origins

Littlefinger was the head of House Baelish and the lord of an extremely minor holding, so small it has neither name nor a maester, located in a small area within the Fingers, a coastal region in the northeastern shores of the Vale of Arryn.

Petyr went to Riverrun when he was eight years old where he met Catelyn and Lysa Tully. Their brother Edmure mockingly nicknamed him "Littlefinger", in reference to his small height and small land holdings. The nickname would stick with him throughout his life. Eventually, even Petyr sarcastically embraced the nickname, because it showed how far he had risen, from an impoverished noble-born boy to Master of Coin!

The Man Behind War of the Five Kings!

Littlefinger orchestrated Jon Arryn's death which brought Ned Stark to King's Landing. Ned figured out Cersei's kid were not true heir of the thrones and got Baratheon brothers in race for Throne. Littlefinger made Lisa Arryn write a letter to Starks blaming the death of her husband on Lannisters. He manipulated Catelyn to prison Tyrion to further the hatred between Lannisters and Starks. He ultimately betrayed Ned which ended up with Ned Stark's execution causing the North to revolt and eventually triggered the War of the Five Kings!

The Best Quotes from Littlefinger!

“Always keep your foes confused. If they are never certain who you are or what you want, they cannot know what you are like to do next. Sometimes the best way to baffle them is to make moves that have no purpose, or even seem to work against you. Remember that, Sansa, when you come to play the game.”

"You know what I learnt losing that duel? I learnt that I'll never win. Not that way. That's their game, their rules. I'm not going to fight them, I'm going to f**k them. That's what I know, that's what I am, and only by admitting what we are can we get what we want."

"Distrusting me was the wisest thing you've done since you climbed off your horse."

"What we don't know is what usually gets us killed."

A blog on Littlefinger cannot be complete without this!

Without Littlefinger, Game of Thrones would just be The War of Thrones!
